I was the Art Director of Tusk Magazine for two years, an annual editorial student magazine, where I led a team of six graphic designers and set the visual direction for the publication. The role was as much about collaboration as it was design. I guided the photographers, the Editor-in-Chief, and the writers to work together to ensure the layout and content served each other cohesively. I ran critique with my designers, held the creative to a consistent standard across every feature, and made the final calls on typography, story organization, and imagery.

I personally designed two magazine stories each year. The Guatemala feature shown here is one example, depicting daily life and available medical treatment. By using cropped and unedited photographs in layout, accompanied by captions meant photojournalism standards were kept intact.

The magazine won the national Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) Pacemaker award.
